Ellena had stayed in her rooms for days. Luckily, for her The Council hadn't had any meetings, however, she knew eventually The Council would like to know her progress on the veils. Looking at herself in the mirror it was obvious she was distraught. Ignoring her encounter with Darcul was nearly impossible. Questions of what purpose The Dragon's payment was, racked through her mind. She feared what consequences would come with it. Walking away from the mirror on the wall, Ellena made her way over to her bed.

Was it just to have his way with me or was he scheming something?

Ellena tried to push the thoughts out of her mind, but they would not budge. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Ellena looked up from hands, which rested in her lap.

"Who is it?" Ellena inquired.

"It is me Alyssa."

"Come in."

Alyssa slowly opened the door and peered in. She could tell Ellena's eyes were red and teary.

"I wanted to discuss the veils in private with you. I had a feeling something was wrong when no one has seen or heard from you," Alyssa stated, as she sat down on the bed, and put a caring hand on Ellena's.

"I think I need a leave of absence. Trying to fix the veils has taken a toll on me. I am not sleeping, and I fear I would be in no condition if a meeting were to come up," Ellena sighed.

"Granted. I will notify the others. Your emotional state is safe with me. I will simply let the others know you need more time for the veils, and a meeting would hinder you. It is after all the most important task at hand," Alyssa smiled slightly.

"Thank you Alyssa. It means the world to me that you would do this."

"No need to thank me. Let me know when you are feeling better. If you need someone to talk to, you simply only need to walk down the hall."

Alyssa came to her feet, "For now I will give you space. I know there is a lot on your mind, but remember my offer still holds."

Ellena nodded her appreciation and Alyssa made her way out the door.

                                    ***

Darius had spent his days researching for Ellena. He tried desperately to  find something. So far there was nothing of use. He wanted to find something useful before seeing Ellena again, especially in order to prevent Ciz or anyone else from thinking about their possible relationship.  He figured she was busy doing her own research as well. If he didn't find something soon he feared that man would come for her...

Pinching the bridge of his nose he sighed. One would think the veils would be better documented, especially in case of a breach. Perhaps, they were arrogant and thought there wouldn't be one. Darius closed his book and slid it across the table. He bent over and folded his arm; resting his head in them. Finally, he closed his eyes. He had not realized how tired he was.

There was a meeting tomorrow and he needed his rest. Darius wondered what this meeting would entail. It was possible The Council wanted to know the progress of the veils, or how they were still shorthanded. The Council had never been short of its members before. Maybe they had finally found someone of age and of exceptional quality. Hopefully, training had improved and there would be more to come, but no one had mentioned anything about the new training. Perhaps, it was time to bring it to the other Council members attention.

                                        ***

Darius took his seat at The Council's table. We watched everyone make their way in for the meeting; everyone except Ellena. It puzzled him to not see her present. She had not missed meeting since she became apart of The Council.

Alyssa stood, waiting for everyone to take their seat.

"Meeting is now in session. First note of the day. Ellena has taken a leave of absence. She is in need of more time for working on the veils. However, she is making great progress. She is missing todays meeting. She fears leaving the task at hand will hinder her progress. We all know that fixing the veils is top priority, therefore, I have granted her a leave of absence. Now then, let us began discussing other matters at hand."

Alyssa saw that everyone agreed and to proceed on with the meeting.

"Circe, would you please go over today's agenda?"

"Yes, thank you Alyssa. Today we would like to introduce a new Council member. His name
is Calanon and he will be joining The Light Council."

Everyone applauded and Aiden opened the door of the meeting room. A tall young Elven man stood at the entrance. He swiftly took his seat at the end of the table.. Darius sized him up. Calanon's blonde hair came to his broad shoulders, and his eyes were a light icy blue. Calanon's clothing was an ivory white and fitted very well to his form. Darius' distraction wa cut short when Circe began to speak once more.

"Now then, as for our issue at hand. Alyssa have had a private meeting, and we have come across an interesting issue. There seems to be less children continuing their education. We have seen a lot more commoners. As a result less Guardians. Alyssa and I thought it would be important to discuss and possibly vote on a rule change. It would require everyone to become a Guardian. This would serve two purposes. One, it would hopefully encourage our youth to seek a higher education, and possible promote their continuation in their training. Two if there were ever an invasion our people would be trained and ready for it."

"I think this is a splendid idea. This could also solve our problem in the future of not have enough exceptional students. It is possible that we miss the 'pick of the litter' simply because he or she never comes through. Who knows how many brilliant minds stop their education at commoner. They might know what being a Guardian is even like!" Aiden said enlightened.

"I agree. Being uneducated could hinder our people and bring about problems in the future," Damen added.

"I say we vote on this new rule now," Osman offered.

Alyssa stood. "Everyone in favor for this new rule to take place starting today say I."

The entire Council voted in favor of the new rule.

"It is agreed then. Today we make new flyers and everyone single home will get one," Circe announced.

Darius stood. Everyone looked at him curiously. It was the first time he had ever came to his feet since he became a member of The Council.

"Seeing as new rules are being discussed...I have a proposal to make," Darius said calmly.

"Go on..." Circe acknowledged.

"I believe it ties into being tolerant and educated. It is important that our people work together, especially among different kin. It is required if anyone is ever to be a member of The Council. Thus, I believe intermarriage should be an option to our people."

The entire Council was taken aback. It seemed as though they had never expected him to have an opinion. Perhaps, it was because he tended to be so indifferent, and was probably the reason they had picked him. He had been possible the least biased person they had ever come across, but now he saw things through a different light.

"Now is this for your own personal gain or is this truly for the people?" Ciz interrogated.

Everyone looked at Ciz and then Darius. The entire Council broke off into discussion.

"One at a time! One at a time!" Alyssa shouted.

"Yes, please do tell us Darius is this a personal matter? Is there someone you fancy? Damen slight teased.

"We are not children...let us not act like one. This is a serious matter. There is no good reason to keep different kin apart," Darius said with full composure, but inside he was fuming.

"Yes, let us keep the accusations formal and suitable for this meeting. Now then, Alyssa and I will ask Darius the questions to insure that this meeting in order," Circe said sternly.

"Darius, we must know whether or not you are a preconceived notion for this rule change. I am sure that you understand that The Council tries to not make drastic changes based off personal reasons. We must not be biased in our law making," Alyssa asked sincerely.

"Let me first ask this then, what harm could come of intermarriage? We are not even speaking of conceiving children yet. We are simply talking about marriage between two different kin," Darius inquired.

"First, there is nothing stopping children from being born. Thus, we must act as though there would be. If we take this into consideration then there is risk of hybrids. We do not know what would happen if there was. Mixing magic is dangerous," Alyssa explained.

"There is no evidence of this. It has never occurred. Therefore, you cannot say that it is dangerous, or that there will even be hybrids." Darius argued.

"True, but the best route would be preventive action," Osman stated.

"Would you do that with magic? Would you have people never try new things simply because it could be dangerous?"

"No, well...." Osman said slightly embarrassed.

"This could change the setup of The Council. If hybrids were to occur then how would we run things?" Circe noted.

"Change is not always bad. If a hybrid did possess both powers then that person would be more adapted. They would have an understanding of both sides, and thus bring unity," Darius answered.

"How would we train a hybrid? What if they got out of hand and you couldn't control them," Alyssa said slightly frightened.

"What about people with ancient magic? Is it any different than that? Proper discipline and training. You could use two different trainers one for the light and one for the dark side of their powers." Darius offered.

"What if their powers are not simply dark and light...what if it is something completely different?" Circe toned became serious.

"There are a lot of what if's here...we will not know any of this if it does not happen in the first place. You also act as though The Council has never banished anyone..." Darius said as he rubbed the bridge of his nose.

The Council was a bit shocked he brought up banishment.

"It shouldn't come to that!" Damen shouted.

"Sometimes it cannot be helped. Besides it is possible that we will never have a problem, and then it is possible one out of hundred will be dangerous. We simply don't know right now, and if this is such a worry, then perhaps we should find a preventive action other than not having intermarriage." Darius noted.

"And what do propose we do?" Ciz retorted.

" I don't know yet, but that is why we are discussing it." Darius said with frustration.

"Perhaps we should continue this meaning later. If a compromise could be made for intermarriage, then we can put it to vote. I think having children seems to be the main reason of forbidding intermarriage. Unless, somebody sees another reason not do?" Circe inquired.

When there was no answer Darius spoke, "Very well. Then let's discuss how the new training is going."

"I have personally been keeping monitoring the new training techniques. I have liked what I have seen thus far. Plus Calanon here is a good example of a success story. With the new training he had advanced quickly, and has personally said so himself. Also I found that children seemed more enthralled with their training, and I think we can expect more students continuing to the next level.," Alyssa stated happily.

"Unless there is any more questions or comments...I would like to bring this meeting to an end. Until our next meeting gather as much information as you can. I want all that was discussed here today to be finalized. Be ready to submit your vote on intermarriage. Gather information from Ellena on the veils or bring any relative information about the veils to the next meeting. Everyone is to hand out flyers about the new change in law on training, and everyone is to study training lessons. I want to know how the students are doing. I want to know if the trainers are doing their job. I want you to give me a complete evaluation. I am giving a months time until our next meeting unless there is an emergency," Circe announced.

The Council members were silent.

"Meeting adjourned." Alyssa voiced.

                                       ***

Ellena practiced day in and day out. Finally, she was able to master repulsion, which in turn she learned levitation. A technique she figured would be good to know in battle as well. She made a book float in the air and made a force field it, and it was stable. She was not sure how the previous person used a gravity spell, but if it the spell did go away when she removed the spell, she knew a way to replace it. Not only could she replace it, but she would make it where they would never have to again. She was going to make the planet denser.

Now, the only question is how to go about it. Perhaps she could use her power to compress the mantle of the planet. She would have to do it slower over time...otherwise who knows what effect it would have. It was probably best to start that before removing the veil. Hopefully, the increase will not affect anyone too harshly. When she did remove the veil the previous gravity spell could go instantly...the burden would be gone and they would still be on the planet. How would she know when it was enough? Too much and she could crush everyone... and without the veil gone how would she know it was enough. How much gravity was on this planet to begin with?

So many unanswered questions...Even if she was able to accomplish such a feat...there was still the wormhole problem. Could she fold space itself? Seemed so far fetched and unlikely. Plus how would it affect everything else? She feared to do too much...How was the wormhole there to begin with? Was it put there or was it natural...supposedly it was part of the veil and in that case it was put there. But why? Why do we need a wormhole to Dream World? Can't we just send banished people into space? Perhaps they thought that cruel....heck she could just teleport them to dream worked...but then again The Council did not know she had such a power...she wasn't even sure how much power she possessed herself. For all she knew all of these tasks were impossible. What happens if she tells them she cannot fix their problem?

She had at least figured two things out. Only two more to go...but they were the most dangerous. She was doing this on such a small scale. Who knows what it will be like doing it on an entire planet, but Ellena felt it was a do or die situation. If she did not do this they could be invaded and all die anyways. If she did do this she could kill everyone...including herself. It seemed no matter what they were doomed. Ellena took a deep breath she was starting to become cynical...she decided it was time to take a break.

Suddenly, there was a knock at her door. Ellena wondered who it could be. She supposed it could be anyone, but decided to allow their entry.

"Come in."

Darius quickly slipped in and Ellena's eyes brightened. As much as she wanted to hide from the world she never truly wanted to hide from him. She missed his embrace. Hopefully, soon they could be together openly.

"I wanted to check on you and your progress on the veils," Darius said softly.

He could see how restless she looked. A part of him wondered if it was not just the veils that kept her hidden in her room. It seemed unlike her to miss a meeting. He knew the veils were important, but the meeting would be a good break and insight as well.

"I am making good progress but there are many issues still unsolved. This project is much more involved than I had thought...and extremely dangerous. If I attempt on doing what I believe I need to do I could kill us all," Ellena confessed.

Darius was taken aback. He had no idea what she was talking about. He had not realized that his time away had left him blind to the project. His researching could be useless to her if he was not up to date on current events.

"What you mean? Elle you can't risk everyone...."

"I know...I know but we are at risk anyways. I fear we will be invaded and if I don't fix the veils soon we are going to be at war. Not just any war...they will slaughter us. We don't stand a chance. At the same time I could end everything in my attempt to do so..." Ellena pleaded.

"You don't know that....there hasn't been any sign of a war..."

"He will come..." He already has for me...Ellena thought.

Darius froze. Frightened by her words.

"He wants to watch the world burn...and no warning will come with it." Ellena said in a trance.

Darius feared to questions her. All he knew is that the matter was serious and Ellena could not do this on her own.

"Tell me what you know. I want to know everything about the veils."

Ellena did as she was told and Darius was up to date with everything, including her training with ShTaire. The only thing she held from him was her encounter with The Dragon. She wanted to bury the memory.

"How long would it take for you to slowly restore the gravity at a safe rate?"

"The problem is I do not know what the safe rate would be. Also remember the longer this takes the more at risk we are to invaders. Plus like I said I do not know the gravitational pull of this planet to begin with."

"Hmm...is there a way to test it?"

"Not without removing the veil. Remember the veil is still intact it was simply tampered with. Dracul found a way in, but did not remove it. For all we know he simply walked through. The only reason I am replacing this one to begin with is so that he cannot do it again."

"What if we temporarily move everyone?"

"Move them where?"

"Dream world..."

"Do we even know how to get back from there? I thought it was a one way trip..."

"Maybe we don't but an elder does."

"If we only go to dream world we will still possess our powers and memories." Ellena noted.

"And you can safely work from there. No one will be at risk."

"How will I test it?"

"Remove the veil and throw something into our world and see how fast it falls. It's a parallel universe...if Dracul really did walk through then there should be a way to just toss a rock over."

"How can I view that from Dream World?"

"If you been there before can't you picture it? Like a version."

"Not in real time...I don't think so anyways."

"Does it need to be in real time? All you need to know is the result."

"I will have to test it out and see. Perhaps we can do it together. You go do something and tell me where it is you are doing it. Then I will try to envision it. If I succeed I will tell you what I saw, and you will confirm it to be true or not."

"Sounds good."

"I hope this works...otherwise we are running out of options. We need to bring this up in the next meeting. We must find someone who knows about Dream World and the wormhole that leads there."

"The next meeting is a month from now..."

"Announce an emergency meeting."

"Very well."

"You know this is important and so do they. However, they do not know the gist of it and it is vital that they do."

" I will notify Circe and Alyssa. Until then get some rest. We will have the meeting first thing in the morning."

Ellena nodded her agreement. She really was tired. Darius kissed her on the forehead and made his way out. When the doors closed Ellena laid down on her bed and fell asleep.
Rough draft of Chapter 12. This is very long chapter but hopefully a good one. Let me know if there should be any changes, especially the science/physics part of this story.
